Jogan Chowdhary, Rajya Sabha MP and former Keeper (Art) at Rashtrapati Bhavan, whose several paintings already form a part of the Rashtrapati Bhavan, has been invited to be the inaugural artist to stay at Rashtrapati Bhavan under the ‘In-Residence Scheme for Writers and Artists’.
Chowdhary, who is a Professor. Emeritus at Visva Bharati University will stay there for a period of 14 days beginning August 4, 2014.
The ‘In-Residence Scheme for Writers and Artists’ launched by the President of India on December 11, 2013 aims to provide writers and artists an opportunity to be a part of the life of Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The new initiative, taken up by current President Pranab Mukherjee, attempts to encourage established as well as young and upcoming writers and artists by facilitating them stay close to nature in the picturesque and serene surroundings of Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The Programme provides an environment that inspires creative thinking and rejuvenate artistic impulses. Reading sessions, exhibitions of works of art and interaction with the residents of Jogen Chowdhary to be the first artist in-residence at Rashtrapati Bhavan , will also be organized in consultation with the selected writers/artists under the scheme.
